Érard Mabille, Chief Curator at the Palace of Versailles, has long nurtured a personal passion for the estate of Marly. He authored the book’s extensive introduction, tracing the history of the site from 1679, when the first works were undertaken there.
Louis Benech is a landscape architect whose practice extends across France and internationally. He notably contributed to the restoration and redesign of the Tuileries Garden. In this volume, he examines the successive plantings of trees and flowers that have shaped the gardens of Marly over time.
Stéphane Castelluccio is a researcher at the CNRS specializing in interior decoration, furniture, objets d’art, and collecting practices in France during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. His publications include Les Jardins de Marly sous le règne de Louis XIV, La Rivière de Marly, and Marly: un instrument de pouvoir enchanteur…. Drawing on the watercolours commissioned by Louis XIV, he reconstructs and analyses the successive creations and the various transformations that reshaped these gardens throughout the king’s reign.
